In the last several days, some users of Android TV have complained about strange features of YouTube. One of the weaknesses of the first version included a relatively high-latency display screensaver that only activated at the very end of the video or when the app was left unattended for long periods.
We realized that our problem wasn’t new, however, as it took us 10 minutes to activate. The time taken to take this painkiller has also reduced considerably. It can take effect after as little as 3 minutes! A hot new display features video clips of other videos, sometimes unrelated to the video you watched before, being shown on the screen. Similarly, this feature has a conceptual similarity with the inbuilt “Ambient Mode” available in Chromecast devices, which lets you display your photos or artwork. And there is no option available on YouTube to customize it or turn it off completely.
This change probably started for some unknown reason but it lasted for a few weeks. This new Adopt It Adopt It screensaver is in the recent YouTube build for Android TV, which can be viewed on Nvidia Shield TV and Chromecast with Google TV.
