Threads gets real-time with new search filter test

Some of us will be lucky because threads are super stocked with people, I’ll also add a “recent” filter to its search results soon. So now people can stay updated about the fast-moving conversations that run almost a marathon on social media. The alert was raised after Instagram chief Adam Mosseri exposed a “security flaw” with a completely chronological shtick.

Mosseri acknowledged the limited rollout of the new feature where viewers can see both “Top” and “Recent” posts. The top result will be the one that has been driven by the algorithm, while recent and new posts will be given priority to find relevant search content in real time. Curiously, testers found that the “Recent” filter does not offer a completely chronological list of topics, but it is still much preferred to “Top” as it makes it much easier to find useful recent topics.

This test is preceded by a separate entry of a similar feature, which Meta said was merely a prototype they released by accident. As before, the hesitation by Mosseri to add a real-time search feature was based on the fear of leveraging the feature against spam and abuse. He explained how a completely chronological output could leave gaps allowing “bad” actors to manipulate search results by adding a bunch of unrelated data.

The “Recent” filter appears to be a mix, it is neither optimal nor a worst-case scenario, but it provides a good balance between novelty and risk reduction. That little kind of testing could mean the company is really making moves toward a real-time, phone-in experience that does justice to one of the main user requests.
