These days, we still remember those inspiring weather widgets that first appeared with the Pixel and Material You in 2021. Sure, they’re here; They’re back again – you never thought they’d make a comeback but now they have – in the form of Android 15 beta. The “Weather” category in the normal “Widgets” has mysteriously slowly changed to “Pixel Weather”.
The thing is: they felt the same way. The app is still posted through Google Apps but they have modified the icon. However, it is now in line with the special “Weather” service launched last December, which resembles a shining sun on a bright blue background. The Surface is a different story, as it doesn’t follow the standard weather shortcut (cloud icon) or the weather shortcut within the Weather app.
What is the purpose of changing the name? This could be a glimpse or a small snippet of what will happen next. The Pixel community—and I—were eager to see a standalone weather app by Google, rather than needing to search for weather online, like many of us. Although the previous weather modification had good features, it did not solve all the challenges. For example, weather alerts simply redirect you to a new search page instead of taking you to the actual weather app.
It could be a computer weather app that is fully integrated with the “pixel”, which reduces the gap for the company and makes it more competitive in the market. Imagine you already have a new app new widgets and a focused weather radar as options! Apple lagged while Samsung and Nothing unveiled a revolutionary weather version of its OS. Additionally, Google may also offer its weather database, a package that could be as resourceful as Apple’s Dark Sky. I wish the Pixel team would take advantage of this idea and create a memory for Pixel users that will make their Weather experience great.
