Samsung’s Foldable Fight: Budget Z Fold 6 to challenge iPhone 16

Foldings, anyone? Water the pool 2 months in advance. Samsung is launching its brand new durable foldable phones called the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 during its Unpacked event this July. Yet rumors go even further that a lower-priced Galaxy Z Fold 6 will hit the market sometime in the future.

This implies that Samsung is deliberately moving forward with this approach, which is a very suspicious action, if not intentional. According to Elec’s report, if the low-end release of the Fold 6 and the iPhone 16 come around the same time frame, the Z Fold 6 could probably steal some customers from Apple. Rumored to be priced at $800, this foldable marks as much of a barbecue as a new contender’s race to the league—making it the technology of the future more accessible.

But if the budget version looks more stylish in the slim design, it doesn’t have a silicone pen slot (presumably to reduce cost), so I’m not sure it will compensate for the lack of features like a more powerful processor or brighter screen. This launch plan appears to be the company’s solution to capture the foldables market.

Target users include high-end buyers and those looking for early adoption at an affordable price. Their aggressive sales target of 10 million foldable phones, as well as their projected sales of the Galaxy S24 series paint a bright picture for Samsung’s premium phones that could sell between 40-45 million units this year. With earlier launches and budget-friendly phone models, Samsung looks to solidify the shift to first place at the top of the foldable smartphone maker.
