PSVR 2 goes PC, but with a bump in the road

Great news for freelance creators! The holy grail update for PSVR 2 is to connect to your PC to play PCVR games. However, there’s one hurdle you’ll have to overcome: You’ll likely need a certain model of your PC USB-C connector, made just for this purpose.

The PSVR 2 hardware, like VirtualLink, is another connector that was designed by Nvidia to allow docking with VR headsets. It only supports USB-C and DisplayPort connections. Therefore, only Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2000 cards as well as PCs with VirtualLink channeling ports can be directly connected to the PSVR 2. While software like iVRy on Steam previously supported PCVR, and PSVR, this update has demystified what we need to use these as cutting-edge technologies.

The final hurdle? In addition, an official Windows driver from Sony is also provided. When the official driver is released, the driver will help to connect PSVR2 to the screen and enjoy PCVR without third-party software.

Good News? According to speculators, Sony could make an adapter, as it did with the PSVR to PS5 adapter, that would bridge the Play Bag around to a PC without a VirtualLink port. It may be that, given recent changes in the company’s attitude towards releasing its games on Steam, a real comprehensive solution directly from Sony is already very close. The PCVR event is around the corner – players could be the next to join in on the PSVR 2 announcement!
