Key Points:

  • Microsoft is investigating VPN connection downtime since the April 2024 Windows 11 update, KB5036893, was released on the afternoon of Monday, April 12, 2024.
  • Some users have raised concerns related to VPN connections that are based on TPM integrity and certified with security patches.
  • At the moment, the only way to remove the KB5036893 update is to apply for its removal. In return, Microsoft promises to fix the problem.

After the April 2024 base update (KB5036893), Microsoft started receiving a large number of complaints against the service (VPN). Users have expressed concerns about the occurrence of TPM-stored certificates crashing after installing new security patches. Some Reddit users, for example, flow-tpg, noticed this and reported getting the error “No certificate found” when trying to connect to the VPN after the update.

The company’s quick response, including a promise to further investigate and take security measures, has shown customers that it will do everything possible to protect data. As a temporary measure and to deal with the problem, the same software titan suggested uninstalling this problematic update, but they also hinted at an upcoming hotfix that was going to be released shortly.

It was a similar story last year, now we have the same disruptions that are causing Microsoft to look for a solution to slow IPsec connection speeds after an update. The Windows Insider Program was intended to prevent such cases from causing Scathglitches and to reflect the fact that the patching of system software and system maintenance itself was sticky.
