- Feature Highlights: Key functionalities include photo manipulation options such as resizing, erasing, and applying contextual presets.
- Access Requirements: While basic access is free, extensive usage demands a Google One Premium plan or a Pixel device.
Last month, Google Photos announced that its Magic Editor and various other AI-powered tools would become available for all Android and iOS users. Although there are some limitations, the rollout has begun for owners of older Pixel models.
Initially launched with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Magic Editor allows users to move, resize, and erase parts of a photo, as well as apply “contextual presets” like Sky, Golden Hour, and Stylized effects. To use it, simply tap the pulsating Magic Editor button in the bottom-left corner of an image. You can select areas by tapping, circling, or brushing, and zooming in helps with precision.
Starting now, all Google Photos users will receive 10 Magic Editor saves per month. For more extensive use, a Google One Premium subscription (2+TB) or a Pixel device is required. The hardware prerequisites include Android OS 8.0+, 4+GB of RAM, and a 64-bit chipset.
Additionally, several AI tools will be made free for all Google Photos users, including Magic Eraser, Unblur, Sky Suggestions, Color Pop, HDR effects, Portrait Blur, Portrait Light, Cinematic Photos, Styles in Collage Editor, and Video Effects. This broadening of access started on May 15 and will continue over the coming months. Previously, these features were exclusive to Google One subscribers, who also enjoyed perks like a VPN service, which Google will be discontinuing in June.
