Key Points:

  • Advanced Core Configuration: The Tensor G4 features a 1+3+4 core setup with the Cortex-X4 as the flagship core.
  • Benchmark Scores: The Pixel 9 series shows significant performance improvements, surpassing the Pixel 8 in AnTuTu benchmarks.
  • Efficiency Gains: The new cores promise substantial gains in power efficiency, enhancing overall device performance.

Recent leaks have shed light on the upcoming Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, offering a glimpse into their performance through preliminary benchmarks and revealing the details of the Tensor G4 chip.

According to benchmark results from Rozetked, the Tensor G4 adopts a sophisticated 1+3+4 core configuration. The flagship Cortex-X4 core is complemented by three mid-tier Cortex-A720 cores and four efficient Cortex-A520 cores. This marks a significant shift from the earlier Tensor models, enhancing both performance and efficiency. The Cortex-X4, also used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, boasts a 15% improvement in performance and a 40% boost in power efficiency compared to its predecessor. Similarly, the A720 and A520 cores exhibit 20% and 22% gains in power efficiency, respectively.

Despite running on non-final software, the Pixel 9 series displays impressive benchmark scores. The Pixel 9 (Tokay) scored 1,016,167 points, while the Pixel 9 Pro (Caiman) and Pixel 9 Pro XL (Komodo) achieved 1,148,452 and 1,176,410 points, respectively, surpassing the Pixel 8’s 877,443 points.

Looking ahead, the Tensor G5 is expected to switch to TSMC for the Pixel 10, potentially placing the Samsung-made Tensor G4 under scrutiny for this year’s buyers. The Tensor G4’s use of Samsung’s 4nm process and FOWLP (Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging) is anticipated to further enhance heat management and power efficiency, positioning the Pixel 9 series as a powerhouse in the smartphone market.
