Key Points:

  • The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to feature the thinnest bezels ever seen on a smartphone.
  • Screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will slightly increase, with a significant reduction in the black border.
  • Apple is expected to use innovative Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to achieve this slim bezel design.

The highly anticipated iPhone 16 Pro is set to break new ground with the world’s thinnest smartphone bezel while retaining a design reminiscent of the iPhone 15 Pro. IceUniverse reports that the bezel around the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen will be even thinner than the current slim borders, enhancing the overall aesthetic and functionality.

Apple plans to introduce slightly larger screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, increasing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches, respectively. This increase will be complemented by a dramatic reduction in the bezel width, a move that builds on the bezel shrinkage from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 15 series, where it was reduced from approximately 3.5mm to under 2mm.

The adoption of Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology is central to achieving these ultra-thin bezels. By bending the wiring and circuitry near the edge of the display panel downwards, Apple is pushing the limits of smartphone design. Despite some manufacturing challenges, this technological innovation promises a more immersive viewing experience while minimizing the increase in the device’s overall size.

Apple’s official unveiling of the iPhone 16 lineup is expected this fall, likely at a September media event. In addition to bezel reductions, the new models will feature the advanced A18 processor, a force-sensitive ‘Capture Button’ for enhanced photo and video capabilities, and the introduction of 5x zoom to the non-Max models for the first time.
