Google releases minor security patch for latest devices

Just this week, Google left Pixel owners speechless by suddenly releasing an update for the Pixel 7, Fold, and 8 series of mobile devices. Such new builds, which come with the latest April 2024 security update, are no longer officially released to your smartphone (OTA update). This is going to happen much later than we update products and the most eye-catching fact is that Google hasn’t mentioned it on the official download page.

It’s getting more interesting: The reason for the update is still a mystery, but these bands are likely to have universal drivers for Pixel users, unless country-specific. This could mean that the April batch is backlogged and is finishing up fast, resulting in good news for those who have not received the April patch yet. The upgrades that are going on seem insignificant only by the new versions. For the Pixel 7 family, the grade changes from “B1” to “A2”. The fold case remains the same – “A1” for plain fold, and “A2” for fold 4.

If you already have some Android updates including the April security patch, you won’t see this update right now. Google has not given details yet but clear answers will be made public soon. For now, you’d better not expect to see the release of Android QPR3 before then, if not until June! But it’s still beta, shrugging its shoulders at the lack of a tap-to-pay component, which reduces reliability, making it less attractive to use as a daily driver.
