Google One VPN goes Pixel-exclusive: a farewell to encrypted universality

For Google One loyalists who can’t afford such a huge security gap for their privacy, implementing a VPN is like sewing a tight blanket over a small frame. Not long ago, there was still some concern about online security because anyone with a Google One VPN subscription could still access Google’s VPN. Still, there is a significant change in business strategy, and as a result, only the Pixel can access VPNs as an incredible advantage.

The crux of the matter is this: a future system update is coming (yet), the Google VPN project is a part of the core Android system on the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Fold (you can get it in a day ), 3 June 2024). Through a hard switch, starting June 10, 2024, the VPN service will no longer be available on the Google One app. Instead, it will become an exclusive feature on Pixel devices. This specification covers the upcoming Pixel 8 line and all upcoming Pixels alike.

Implications? If you have Google VPN that encrypts your data and you come from Pixel, you will need to browse the internet only on VPN providers that give the best results. This action narrows Google’s portfolio options and potentially strengthens the appeal of the Pixel brand – a strategic decision with favorite players and even those who are potentially banned in the digital closet.
