Key Points:

  • 15-Minute Editing Window: Users can now edit sent RCS messages within 15 minutes.
  • User-Friendly Editing Process: Easily update messages with a simple long-press and pencil icon.
  • Message Transparency: Edited messages are marked, and the original remains accessible.

In a significant update, Google Messages is rolling out the ability to edit recently sent RCS messages. This new feature, which has been in testing over recent weeks, allows users to correct typos or modify their messages within a 15-minute window after sending.

To edit a message, simply long-press on the message and select the new pencil icon that appears in the toolbar at the top. The original message will reappear in the compose field, ready for editing. Once you have made the necessary changes, tap the checkmark to save and resend the message. If you decide against the edit, you can easily cancel the action.

Edited messages will be marked as “Edited” within the conversation, ensuring transparency. The original version of the message remains accessible via a long-press on the overflow menu, followed by selecting “View details.”

This feature is exclusive to RCS messages and is gradually being made available to all users starting today. For the editing functionality to work, all participants in the conversation must have this update enabled.

Additionally, in an expressive twist, new Emoji Kitchen sticker combinations are set to be released soon. Users can look forward to creative combos like a disco ball paired with headphones, perfect for the festival season. This update enhances the customization and expressiveness of Google Messages, making communication more flexible and fun.
