Refer to strange incidents of group texts where it is impossible to find out who is behind a large part of the phrases. On the contrary, community building has been seriously damaged due to the isolation caused by coronavirus and we need a solution to deal with it. Google Messages is trying to address this with a new feature called Profile Discovery. You’re asked to create a profile picture and a nickname that will be visible across the platform when you chat with your contacts.

It’s already started, and you’ll probably start seeing that someone else’s contacts have given their phone numbers a new look. History is particularly lost on specific initials. If you have Property Discovery enabled, the icon will hang above your list of chats.

This functionality allows you to participate in open conversations as well as small group discussions, where you can keep in touch with all the participants. Now, you can match a name with all those unmarked contacts of yours.

However, there is a catch. Google prioritizes your visitor’s profile photo pulled by Discovery, even if you’ve already added another photo to “Contact.” Ensuring that the brand identity is consistent across all Google platforms is great but you may be missing some of the touch of personalization.

If you don’t like this update there’s no reason for your contacts to have an unstylish photo of you. It provides a ‘Profile Range Search’ feature under ‘Messages’ settings. In advanced settings. Here, you can choose your preferred nickname and photo, or even decide not to use your photo.

In other words, the next time you send someone a Google message, you might see different blinking sounds or GIFs.
