Google Calendar streamlines month scrolling on Android

One of the recent drastic updates that came out for Android users is an intuitive and easy monthly view of the much-loved Google Calendar which undoubtedly proves to be a big help for them especially if they have busy schedules to deal with. Although handling appointments is already a feature that is accessible through the app, I have found myself in situations where swiping takes months and weeks longer. It’s also not a good idea to do this if you’re planning or looking back on past events.

It takes advantage of server-side changes, where the latest version (which is v2024.13.1-624115131 of the Pixel 8 Pro) witnesses the arrival of new months of chips. Located below the monthly calendar viewer, this bullet is a brief preview of some future or preceding months (usually 4-5 depending on screen size). This bar scrolls using the left or right scroll function. The user can quickly select the target month, and it has the option to swipe repeatedly.

This invention speeds up calendar movement, especially when one is trying to move forward over a longer period. Consider the benefits one gets when one books a holiday six months in advance instead of two. Or, imagine the time saved that a person would otherwise spend looking for appointments from the previous quarter at just the click of a button. The new card-free system overcomes the limitations of the swipe-based approach to the new system. This saves time and reduces frustration to a great extent.

It should be noted that this performance change is already in process and some users may not experience changes immediately. The fact that it’s included in the phone’s Android app is true. But it will not be made available here on tablets or iOS versions. Overall, the decision to change the settings in which events are reflected within Google Calendar reflects Google’s desire to improve the user experience, making it an even stronger target for time management on Android devices.
