Key Points:

  • Google app on Android introduces a dedicated “Notifications” tab in the bottom bar.
  • The tab consolidates alerts from Google Search, providing a streamlined way to view missed notifications.
  • Currently available in the latest beta version, with a broader rollout expected soon.

In a bid to enhance user experience, the Google app on Android is rolling out a new “Notifications” tab, joining Discover, Search, and Saved in the bottom bar. Represented by a standard bell icon, this new addition aims to centralize alerts and notifications, making it easier for users to manage and access pertinent information.

The Notifications tab displays alerts generated by Google Search, including updates on weather conditions, flight statuses, sports scores, entertainment options, and even the word of the day. These notifications are organized into “Today” and “Earlier” sections, offering a clear and concise overview of timely information.

Users can interact with each notification to view the associated search term or manage their notification preferences through an overflow menu that provides options to delete, modify alert settings, or send feedback.

Despite the Google app’s delayed transition to the Material 3 design seen in other Google services, this update is a significant step towards improving functionality and user engagement. Currently available in the beta version 15.20, the new Notifications tab will be rolled out more widely shortly, promising a more integrated and user-friendly notification experience on Android.
