Despite Apple’s Vision Pro headset lacking traction for developers at the moment, media fans already have something to look forward to. The selection of VideoLAN, a non-profit company in charge of the famous VLC media player, was not a surprise. They have announced that they will fully support Vision Pro!

Recently, VideoLAN President Jean-Baptiste Kempf, who is in charge of the company, revealed that the device has already shown a working VLC prototype running on it. But, equally, for you still stop smiling. This may affect the timing of the product’s release as it is not confirmed that everyone will accept and use it.

Kempf accepts this challenge: there would not be the drive necessary to bring a revolutionary technology to market because its user base was small when they were in their invention phase. He states in the text that there is no viable use case for Vision Pro yet. For now, you won’t be able to experience the magic of Facebook in Apple’s spatial computing world.

However, Kempf developed a VLC app that was supposed to run in Meta’s Quest units but it was removed because there were too many “good players” on the list of existing VR arcade players.

VLC is a popular media player that can be especially attractive to those who switch to it for the first time because of its free and open-source nature, its usability, and its versatility. It’s a Swiss Army knife utility for playing audio and video with multiple formats that, for a lot of time, even QuickTime isn’t able to handle. This sets VLC Player apart from the rest in a good way, as users with Apple Vision Pro can easily achieve more with VLC than other media players.

Although the wait to play VLC on Vision Pro may be longer, this news will undoubtedly be a good omen. Such signs indicate that developers are in control, and intent on Apple’s continued success, and as a result, more apps in Apple’s thrilling augmented reality are likely to come.
