Fuchsia v16: Nest Hubs get upgrade with improved bluetooth, smart home support, and more

Nest Hub is moving up to the 16 version of its Fuchsia, thus, Bluetooth, Matter/Thread compatibility at the low level, and fundamental systems persist. Bluetooth upgrades fix both the annoyance of missing song information and the somewhat overlooked issue of headphone connectivity. Furthermore, the “Duo calls” notation serves as a pointer to merge with Meet, which is also a video call service, in 2022 that might be still alive in the code.

Fuchsia 16 has a feature for avid smart home users that it now can work with Matter-equipped air quality sensors, allowing them to seamlessly be part of their houses. Furthermore, reforms are done on Thread a low-power networking protocol design that directly contributes to saving up power and therefore is more efficient and precise with the network usage.

Going even further than the Nest Hub, this upgrade marks the beginning of full Linux app support on Fuchsia via “Starnix”. The exclusivity to x86-64 architecture, which is noncompatible with RISC-V, is another strategic move with obvious effects on the future of Fuchsia.
