Key Points:

  • From July 29, 2024, Fitbit Pay will no longer be available. From then on Google Wallet for its part will be the next option.
  • The journal is another step toward a joint venture with Google where the world-famous payment system will be a new standard for Fitbit gadgets.
  • The change doesn’t affect those using Google Wallet in Japan, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia but most customers in other countries have to move from the NFC payments on Fitbit to Google Wallet.

In a strategic move to consolidate, Fitbit will simplify its native payment solution Fitbit Pay in July 2018, so that Google Pay can sit as the king of Fitbit’s smartwatches and trackers.

Since 2018, when NFC support launched on some Versa and Charge 3 versions, this slowly but surely expanding feature of Fitbit devices has been an ongoing process. However, the future generation of Fitbit payment integration, which will be signaled by Fitbit’s departure, will rapidly change the specific approach towards payment integration.

The owners say that until July 29, 2024, there will be no more Fitbit Pay operations, except for users in special regions like Japan, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia. This message took an unprecedented step of standardizing payment systems to create uniform payments across all of Fitbit’s products, which are used by their users globally.

And we have Google Wallet that plays the role of the future Fitbit Pay. Being updated with the re-brand campaign, users can add multiple banking and card options specifically designed for contactless payments in pursuit of Google’s unique global acceptance system.

During the update process users are directed to install the latest version of the Fitbit company app which is 4.14.1 or higher on both Android and iOS platforms. From that point, a hassle-free installation lets you choose Google Wallet and add a card to it for further payment convenience in their Fitbit devices.

However, we should point out that most cards can be easily moved to Google Wallet; Although American Express cards do not have the privilege of being part of the ecosystem right now, they are going to join the list shortly to ensure that Fitbit users around the world enjoy the universal payment environment without any hassles.
