Key Points:

  • Air Quality Integration: Google has integrated air quality information into its Weather card on mobile Search results.
  • Limited Interactivity: Users cannot tap to see detailed AQI information directly from the Weather card.
  • Platform-Specific Availability: This feature is available on mobile but not on desktop Search.

Google has enhanced its Weather card on mobile Search results by incorporating air quality information. This update aims to provide users with a more comprehensive overview of current environmental conditions at a glance. When searching for “weather” on mobile, users will now see air quality status, along with the existing temperature, condition, precipitation, humidity, and wind information. This addition appears at the bottom of the Weather Frog card, accompanied by a status and matching color indicator.

However, the feature’s utility is somewhat limited as users cannot tap to view the actual Air Quality Index (AQI) number directly from the Weather card. For more detailed air quality information, users must perform a full search for “air quality,” which provides an AQI number and a map. This functionality is available in the Google app on both Android and iOS, as well as on mobile web browsers. Notably, this feature is absent from the desktop version of Google Search, which lacks the Weather Frog design.

In addition to the Weather card, Google already displays air quality information in various places, including the “your space” carousel at the top of Discover, the weather corner in Google Maps, and the At a Glance widget. Despite the recent updates to Google’s weather interface, Android’s fullscreen Weather experience still does not reflect air quality data. This gap underscores the need for a dedicated weather app on Android that could offer enhanced features like additional widgets and radar functionality.
