Android 15 unveils lock screen widgets (For Tablets) and potentially updateable NFC

Android 15 is bringing exciting features to users, including the long-awaited return of the lock screen widget, but with one change: for the time being, it’s only open to people with tablets. Additionally, the feature provides an interface to view important details like weather, calendar events, or the day’s headlines. At first, the Assistant will be available on hub-mode devices like Chromebooks as well as Pixel tablets, but the update will potentially unlock the benefits across smartphones.

Another fascinating perspective towards Android 15 operation is that the Near Field Communication (NFC) stack will be grouped into Google Play to allow updates. Like consumables, NFC, the technology behind contactless payments, can make firmware updates, security patches, and feature add-ons faster using only modular interfaces. Due to this neither update will be subject to any device manufacturer, but this process will become a time-saving activity.

This first Android 15 beta sneak peek has an updatable NFC module installed. Thus, it allows the latest version of the remote and module to be compatible with different devices. Google had already included PML (Project Mainline) to update core OS components without Google Play and where NFC could be introduced seems like a good option. These improvements will, undoubtedly, reduce system bugs and lack of clerical presence, while a new “Observation Mode” will be introduced for easier payments at a distance.

However the unstable beta phase on Pixel phones has removed the NFC feature, hence, it is expected that the upcoming update will reactivate this feature. Android 15 predicts a user world optimized by lock screen widgets and the most rapid roll-out of NFC updates for important functionalities.
