No old-fashioned charging pads! The future may involve just a few simple taps on your phone! Android 15 talks about introducing NFC, the same technology behind making contactless payments, to replace the traditional charging method of using wiring.

The future world is likely to move beyond the Qi protocol and adopt NFC technology as well. This technology uses NFC, already installed on your phone, as an interaction point between one device and another, while transmitting small amounts of power (for example 1 watt). This may seem blurry, but it is the livening factor for further miniaturization.

Imagine a case where the charge in your fitness tracker or stylus with the stylus never needed to be replaced. For example, if your device is already low on battery, you can stick it to the back cover for an on-the-go power top-up using NFC charging. The technology has been introduced in the distant past to wearable devices that include earbuds and others, and with the release of Android 15, the reality of the technology will probably become an everyday conversation.

However, the actual purpose of NFC charging is currently uncertain. Indeed, even though NFC charging is built into the Android core, it will open up interesting options for the future. Hopefully, in the future, your smartphone will be able to use your wireless power bank as your entire gadget ecosystem, eliminating forever the hassle of charger wires and replaceable batteries.
