Whispers in the IT sector suggest that both varieties of the iPhone 16 Pro could include a spectacular 5x optical zoom feature.

According to TrendForce, a famous Taiwanese research agency, Apple aims to bring along the quad-prism camera technology, capable of attaining up to 5x optical zoom, from the iPhone 15 Pro Max to its successors, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which are set to be released this year. This speculation is consistent with previous signals provided by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng Securities.

TrendForce sneaked this tantalizing nugget inside a recent press release that focused on the larger environment of smartphone camera lens technology:

Following the successful launch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its exclusive Tetraprism telephoto zoom lens, the industry is expected to see an increase in the adoption of periscopic lens modules. Apple plans to bring this advanced hardware upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro, making it accessible to more users in the Pro series.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max had a four-prism camera combination with a unique “periscope” design, cleverly hidden within the smartphone, allowing for an amazing 5x optical zoom capacity, which can be extended up to 25x via digital zoom. In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro, like its predecessors the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, is limited to a 3x optical zoom.

Furthermore, talk abounds about the iPhone 16 Pro’s likely upgrade to a larger 6.3-inch display, a break from the 6.1-inch screen of its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro. This alleged enlargement could accommodate the increased quad-prism camera arrangement, providing extra internal space within the gadget.

The IT community eagerly awaits Apple’s anticipated introduction of the iPhone 16 series, which is expected to debut in September.
