Brighter Roads, Less Glare: Tesla rolls out adaptive high beams

Night-time driving is becoming safer and lighter with the launch of High Beam Adaptive technology. Tesla will make this possible. This (available on version 2024.8.x) is the first step towards something bigger for Tesla drivers in Europe (it will be available in the US soon).

Here’s how it works: Tesla designers’ cutting-edge cameras can remotely track other vehicles and bicyclists traveling anywhere on the road. The headlights dim parts of the beam aimed at oncoming vehicles by a brightness adjustment mechanism. Through this creative feature only glare from oncoming traffic will be reduced while your view will remain clear.

Let’s say you close your eyes and imagine driving on a dark road. Just like in film noir, when the stars go dark, you will be relieved and equipped with adaptive high beams as you get a wider and brighter range, as drivers coming in your direction will avoid any distracting effects. It’s good for everyone—the winner takes it all, resulting in enjoyment for everyone involved.

This option is very easy to open or configure. Simply go to “Lights” in your car’s settings and toggle on “Adaptive High Beam.” But there’s a catch: The second modification is only available for vehicles designed with matrix headlights. These brilliant headlights which are already fitted on some new-size Model S and Model X cars and Model 3 and Model Y are very bright and beautiful.

So, pay special attention to when this update appears on your compatible Tesla in Europe. As it is time to travel safer and brighter at night, you should not miss this update.
