Tech enthusiasts, rejoice! The mystery behind the M3 MacBook Air’s breathtaking speed has finally been revealed. If we open the new 256GB M3 laptop via teardown it will be clear that Apple replaced one 256GB chipset in the base model M3 with two 128GB chipsets. This small difference turns out to be a big part of the performance quota.
Speed tests of the M3 configuration are promising showing SSD speeds in the M3. Their results are surprisingly very fast i.e. write speed is 33% dramatically faster and read speed is 82% dramatically faster compared to the previous model. The numbers for this new Apple Silicon chip even outperform the M1 MacBook Air and even surpass them to some extent.
However, before you jump into getting the latest and greatest, there should be a qualification. The MacBook Air is Apple’s M2 and is priced very reasonably. And this low-budget option trades speed for low-cost acquisitions.
Thus, will it be enough to observe the difference in regular use as a marketer or consumer? Probably not. The M3, on the other hand, is the least of its many chips, meant for those who want to go to the top.
iFixit rates the M3 using a 0 – 10 scale as an indicator of the repairability of the model. However, they are likely to award the model a 5 out of 10.
