iPhone App Freedom Arrives in Europe: Downloads now beyond the App Store

The users of the European iPhones have just received extra features over the application. Apple has released some new features for the developers, giving them the flexibility to distribute apps not only from their app stores but also from their websites. Hence, with this approach the possibility will be quite real for the future user to download apps directly from a developer’s page, and the function of the App Store can disappear.

The range of control distribution was narrowly circumscribed, the App Store being specifically highlighted as the only legitimate app outlet. Now European app stores can be created by the local developers or the users can download the applications directly from the developer’s site. It makes it possible for consumers and developers alike to enjoy freedom of choice and even lower prices for apps as there won’t be a need for this App Store fee payment.

More than that, there are a few exceptions, however. The distribution will only be on the web, hence only major developers with reputable records in the market will be eligible. Another important area of concern for Google is that Apple also has some security requirements apps have to meet. The new functionality we are looking forward to releasing should come out in the springtime to let iPhone users in Europe have an opportunity to experience at least a little bit of the freedom of applications.
