Listen, binge queens and show Catholics, we’re all cord-cutters and streamers! To keep up with the pace of its current Chromecast with Google TV (4K), the tech giant Google is getting ready to release a new modified version of the unit. With a completely revised design (akin to releasing a new product almost four years after the original model was launched), this model is refreshingly new.

Exciting news? On the upside, it may retain the stunning 4K resolution we’ve come to enjoy while also sporting a super sleek new remote. This is for anyone who has to deal with the slightest of current handheld controller problems.

Even though some elements of the specific processing power of the next generation have not been revealed yet, we can safely assume that the upgrade from the 2020 version will be huge. It has been indicated from the beginning that the Amlogic S905X5 may have low power consumption and that it can play the recently recommended AV1 video format. This means that your video content apps are free from buffering issues, resulting in even higher-quality viewing.

And the magic here is the next-generation remote. In the leaks of the Android TV 14 beta, we can see that Google is working on a new design with a familiar pill shape and a D-pad paired with some additional keys. Most importantly, the volume controls will now be on the side of the device, like the power button, making adjustments simpler. The spot also includes another new feature: the fact that there’s an unnamed “magic” button that can have customizable shortcuts, enhancing the user experience to another level.

On the software side of things, note that the new Chromecast will be running Android 14, with no Android TV 13 after it was recently discontinued. The latest model has seen several modifications come in and out of the model including Fast Pair which switches audio outputs, and some nice home screen adjustments.

The announcement of no actual date to launch the ad spot adds to the excitement as Google’s new affordable streaming dongle is one of the most interesting plays in entertainment TV right now. We will continue to update our pricing and availability on an ongoing basis!
