I think you still remember those days: when you kept scrolling through the WhatsApp contact list, looking for your best friend to talk to. Due to technological advancements, this phase going forward may be limited to numbers only. A new feature spotted in WhatsApp beta hints at a game-changer: a user’s customized favorites panel.
Consider creating a section because your potential connections are arranged there one by one. No more endless swiping! This feature, located inside WhatsApp’s Settings, will allow you to create your favorite contacts list that includes people with whom you always communicate or any desired group chat. Have you ever needed to urgently contact your mother within a minute? The Favorites button is the thing she cares about more than anything else, and each click on it will bring her straight to the front stage.
And yet how different is it from the existing service of last night’s chat? Even if you archive chats and move them away from the main screen, they will remain in the bottom list and you will have to open them separately. The select-preferred option, too, is a bit more of a step. You can also think of the Dear Contacts list as a VIP status on the other end of the line, allowing you to be at the forefront of their hearts, if, of course, they care about you in the first place.
However, the same pin that keeps our favorite chats from getting buried among dozens of others on this messaging platform is a divided opinion on the purpose of these stickers. Yes, but by pinning three discussion groups you can’t follow everyone in that area. In contrast, the Favorites tab can potentially have a lot more connections queued up, so it’s a broader meeting place for the closest contacts.
Meanwhile, some other creations that are pending are hinting towards a mystery about their final form. Whether WhatsApp will assimilate this feature in a way that doesn’t clog up users’ inboxes or lead to information asymmetry, we’ll have to wait and see. One thing is for sure: Tab Favorites has the opportunity to simplify your WhatsApp time and -IFT- with the people you are with, at a click faster than you can dream.
