Cheers to all those Pixel users who constantly use their phones for webcams and other things! Thus, an update is performed on them. The previous Developer Preview 2.0 brought us this great feature, dramatic video quality improvements.
Do you remember when Android 14 first instructed us to use Pixel devices for video calls with friends? It was pretty good, but the quality couldn’t match the real deal. Google listened! The previous version of this new technology would have taken two and a half devices to create. This modified “HQ” toggle provides the fastest video feed.
The visual effect cannot be fully transferred via screenshots, but you should see the difference in detail and sharpness of the picture when “HQ” is activated. It should be mentioned that lighting is quite important. Even in low light “headquarters” can be so bad that things look even worse. Nonetheless, these virtual events will tend to appear more formal.
Now there is no bad news, I am getting only good news. Run your laptop as a webcam, and your battery will no longer drain or overheat. Running the Pixel 8 Pro under ‘HQ’ mode for over two hours (tested with this on) saw only a slight performance degradation. Android 15 ensures security by enabling users to authenticate with their fingerprint or biometrics before using the webcam.
This modification may seem like a slight change to the device, but it’s thrilling news for those who use their Pixel gadgets for video-calling. With video focusing added to its security tools, Pixel users can now use their webcams to get on the road to success.
