Think of youngsters dancing to the same tune, or watching movies side by side with friends, all without disturbing nearby residents. As Android 15’s cleverly named “Audio Sharing” feature suggests, the quest for a golden age of listening is about to come true.

Continuous improvements in Bluetooth technology with reduced lag and better audio quality are opening doors for professionals in various industries. Another function of some is Auracast which enables audio from one device (smartphone, laptop, etc.) to be broadcast to multiple earphones or speakers.

For those who are hearing impaired or require interpretation, this could be a real game changer as they can now simply share an audio stream and previous difficulties will now be gone. However, apart from friends and family, private audio bubbles can also be used to listen to favorite music or watch movies together.

We get a clue about the future of Android 15 from the “Audio Sharing” menu within the device’s Settings app. It is located under the “Connected Devices” section. There isn’t much information about it, although there is a switch for “Share Audio” and a “Testing Sound” option that can be used to confirm whether the headphone connections are correct. The “Stream Settings” section is missing any necessary settings and this probably means that the given feature is still under development.

Work-in-progress testing shows that “Share Audio” is not yet functional. Furthermore, it is still unclear where Auracast is linked. Nonetheless, this glimpse of Android 15 brings a ray of hope that such continued upgrades to services could make a huge difference to the future of both mobile and music.
